Athens Shooting Incidents Leave Five Injured, Police Search for Suspect

(MENAFN) Greek authorities are conducting a large-scale search after two linked shooting incidents in central Athens left five people injured on Tuesday, according to reports from local officials.

The first attack reportedly took place at an EFKA social security office, where an 89-year-old man is said to have entered the building and taken an elevator to the fourth floor. There, he allegedly fired a shotgun, striking an employee who was part of a government employment program.

A public broadcaster reported that the injured worker sustained light injuries to the leg and was taken to hospital, where doctors confirmed his condition was not life-threatening.

Shortly after the first incident, the same suspect is believed to have taken a taxi to the Athens Court of Appeal in the Loukareos area. Once inside the building, he again reportedly reached the fourth floor and opened fire, injuring four additional people.

Authorities said all four victims from the second shooting also suffered minor injuries.

Police stated that the suspect abandoned the weapon at the scene of the second attack before fleeing. A nationwide manhunt is now underway to locate and apprehend him.

Officials have not yet confirmed a motive, and investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
