Greece Rolls Out New Cruise Passenger Charge

(MENAFN) Greece has rolled out a new passenger charge for cruise ships docking at its ports, aiming to enhance tourism income.

This newly implemented "Cruise Fee" applies to every individual who disembarks from a professional sightseeing cruise vessel at Greek harbors, according to a local news agency.

The fee's cost fluctuates depending on the season and the destination.

For Greece’s top tourist hotspots, Mykonos and Santorini, the charge will be €20 ($23.3) per passenger during peak season, spanning June 1 through September 30.

During the same timeframe, visitors disembarking at other Greek ports will incur a €5 ($5.8) fee.

The news agency reported that the collection and remittance of this fee will be handled by shipping agents and cruise operators via an electronic system established by the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy.
